City of Cortland
| The City of Cortland is the sole city in Cortland County, is the County seat, and is the location of the State University of New York at Cortland. The City is home to almost 39% of the County population. During the post-Civil War industrial expansion period, the City was the site of an unusually strong manufacturing based economy, especially for a city of its size. Wealthy industrialists erected upper middle class Victorian commercial buildings and residences. The city's Downtown is a local, State, and federally registered Historic District. |  |
